Wima War 152 – Laboratory

----------Above the Great Pit----------

Ait piloted the mech and stopped in front of a ruined building.
Beside him, Notan looked up at the towering structure.

Ait: “How much longer are they going to take?”

Notan: “No idea. Doesn’t look like they’ll be done anytime soon.”

Ait raised his head and looked toward the rooftop.

Ait: “I’m going up to check the top floor.”

Notan: “Alright. Be careful.”

Elsewhere.

Boland and Nice followed Syla into the building.

Time had long since consumed the entire structure.
The walls were stained and cracked, windows shattered, and the sound of rusted steel groaning echoed through the corridors whenever the wind blew through.

Yet somehow, the heavy concrete frame still barely held the old hospital together.

Step by step, the three climbed upward.

Seventh floor.

Syla suddenly stopped walking.

Syla: “Finally… I’m back.”

Boland: “What is this place?”

Syla stared quietly into the depths of the hallway.

Syla: “This used to be where I worked.”

Nice: “Wow…”

Boland glanced around the area.

Boland: “This hospital is huge. But Syla, I need to say this first…”

Syla nodded softly.

Syla: “I know. I’ll grab what I need, and then we leave immediately.”

Nice: “This place feels way too quiet.”

At the end of the hallway.

A heavy metal door stood half open.

Boland raised his rifle and glanced at the faded metal sign beside it.

— “LABORATORY”

Syla silently tightened her grip on her weapon.

Nice and Boland instinctively raised their guard as well.

Even though they had encountered no monsters along the way…

Both of them could tell—

Syla was afraid of something.

The door slowly creaked open.

And then—

A massive room appeared before them.

Rows upon rows of shelves stretched deep into the darkness.
Countless culture containers filled every rack.

Some had turned black with decay.
Others had grown twisted plants inside.

Several of them had become so massive that they pierced straight through the ceiling itself.

Sunlight poured down through the cracks above, illuminating the overgrown plants like some grotesque forest.

Syla walked straight toward one of the offices as if she already knew the way.

Boland and Nice followed behind her.

And there—

In the corner of the office—

Was a dog cage.

Syla froze instantly.

Her breathing began to tremble.

Inside the cage…

Only the dried skeletal remains of a dog remained.

The tiny bones were still curled together.

As though it had waited for its owner to return.

Syla’s eyes lost focus.

Slowly, she fell to her knees.

Her trembling hands gripped the rusted bars of the cage.

Syla: “…Snow…”

Her voice was so hoarse it was barely audible.

She lowered her head.

Tears began falling uncontrollably onto the dusty floor.

How long had this place been abandoned?

How long had it waited here?

Until the very end.

It never got to see its owner come back.

Syla finally broke down completely.

She pressed her forehead against the cage as years of buried emotions collapsed all at once.

Boland stood behind her silently.

Without saying a word, he walked forward and gently placed a hand on her shoulder.

Nice lowered his head quietly as well.

No one interrupted her grief.

After a long while…

Syla wiped away her tears and took a deep breath.

She walked toward a small safe beside the desk.

After entering the code, the lock clicked open.

Inside was a laptop that had somehow remained intact all these years.

Syla turned around and looked at Boland.

Her eyes were still red.

Syla: “I’m ready.”

Boland nodded.

Boland: “Alright. I’ll contact Ait.”

Syla followed behind the two men.

Just as they were about to leave—

She suddenly stopped.

Syla: “Wait…”

Boland: “What now?”

Syla looked up toward the gigantic plant that had burst through the ceiling.

Syla: “This plant…”

Boland frowned.

Boland: “You didn’t notice it earlier?”

Nice gave a small bitter laugh.

Nice: “I think you were a little too focused on your office.”

Boland: “Still… didn’t you people ever think growing something this huge in a lab might collapse the building?”

Syla’s expression changed instantly.

Syla: “That’s exactly the problem.”

She quickly walked toward the shelves.

Carefully examining the identification numbers on the containers.

But after so many years…

And with the plant having shattered several of the containers apart…

Most of the labels were impossible to read.

Syla could only estimate the specimen number from nearby fragments.

Nice walked over.

He handed her a small knife.

With his other hand, he picked up a relatively intact zip-lock bag from the floor.

Boland: “Nice?”

Nice shrugged.

Nice: “Had a feeling she’d need it.”

Syla accepted the tools.

Syla: “Thank you.”

With practiced precision, she cut a small sample from the plant.

Then carefully sealed it inside the bag.

Boland: “We need to move. Now!”

Suddenly—

The sound of countless insects erupted around them.

Ait’s urgent voice burst through the communicator.

Ait: “Hurry up! The monsters found us! They’re heading your way!”

Boland: “We’re already moving! But we’re still on the seventh floor!”

A brief silence followed.

Ait: “Seventh floor… one, two, three, four… Forget going down. Head to the rooftop. I’ll pick you up there!”

Boland: “Huh?”

Syla immediately understood.

Syla: “Ait’s right. It’s faster to climb three floors up than rush down seven floors.”

Several minutes later.

The three burst onto the rooftop.

Violent wind slammed into them.

And there—

Ait’s heavily armed mech was already waiting.

The three immediately grabbed onto the support frame attached to the mech’s leg.

The next second—

The thrusters roared to life.

The mech launched off the rooftop, carrying them through the air before safely landing back on the ground below.

Notan: “Are we fighting here?”

Boland looked toward the distant black swarm rapidly approaching them.

Boland: “Bad location for a defensive line. We move first and find better ground.”

Syla lowered her head.

Syla: “Sorry… I delayed everyone’s mission.”

Nice smiled lightly.

Nice: “It’s fine. The others underground probably still need more time anyway.”

Ait activated the mech’s thrusters once more.

Ait: “Fasten yourselves in. We’re pulling out.”

Wima War 151 – Excruciating Pain

Five Minutes Before “Divine Judgment”

Thunder God, Lightning Command, and Hailstone advanced slowly through the underground cavern.

But inside the comms channel—
there was complete chaos.

Moses’ voice exploded through the radio, thick with alcohol and heartbreak.

“Do you know how much I loved her?!
And she just… ran off with another guy!!”

Vance’s voice drifted lazily, sounding more like he was sitting in a bar than inside a battlefield.

“…Man… that’s so tragic… seriously…
Here, let’s drink to that… wait, do we even have alcohol left?”

A vein bulged on Simon’s forehead.

“What the hell are you two doing?
We’re inside enemy territory.”

Moses ignored him completely.

“Simon, you HAVE to listen to me…
That day she told me ‘forever’… FOREVER!!”

Simon replied coldly.

“I really don’t want to hear this.”

Moses suddenly became emotional, his drunkenness turning childish and stubborn.

“I DON’T CARE!!
You’re listening to the whole story today!!”

Then—

Simon lowered his gaze toward the monitor.

The geological scan beneath them was flashing violently.

An entire swarm of monsters was racing underground beneath their feet.

In the distance—
came the muffled but relentless sounds of gunfire.

Vance suddenly laughed, completely drunk.

“Hey Simon… don’t you think this story is touching?
I’m about to cry… hahahaha…”

Simon abruptly looked up, voice low and sharp.

“Shut up. Quiet.”

—Strangely enough, both of them actually fell silent.

Only the distant cavern entrance remained—

The thunder of monsters charging forward.
The explosive clash of machine guns and plasma fire.

The three mechs slowly approached the opening.

Ahead of them—

The Desert Legion was being overwhelmed by hordes of monsters.

Hail had just begun to turn and retreat.

The next second—

Vance directly launched Thunder God forward in a massive leap.

His voice transformed—
from drunken haze into pure madness and liberation.

“Lightning output—FULL OPEN!!”

“DIVINE JUDGMENT!!!!”

Back to the Present

Thunder God lay collapsed on the ground, arcs of residual electricity still dancing across its armor.

Hank approached in Titan.
Thunder Sand and Desert Bastion secured the perimeter.

Simon jumped down from his cockpit.

Moses sounded panicked, half-sober and completely unstable.

“Simon, you got him killed!!
Did you SEE him just now?! He totally wanted to die!!”

Simon cut him off instantly.

“Shut up.”

Hank spoke calmly.

“What happened?”

Simon quickly explained the electromagnetic fungal forest and the situation moments earlier while opening Thunder God’s cockpit.

—Instantly.

Vance’s eyes snapped open.
His entire body convulsed violently as he jerked upright.

“PAIN!!!!!!!”

Hank blinked.

“What the hell now?”

Vance curled into himself, nearly breaking down.

“God… it hurts…
My whole body… feels like it’s being torn apart…”

Moses almost burst into tears, still emotionally drunk.

“Vance, you’re alive!! Thank God!!
I knew you wouldn’t leave me behind!!”

Jackson frowned.

“Should we drag this drunk idiot away first?”

Moses instantly exploded.

“TRY TOUCHING HIM!!”

—Lightning Command immediately raised its twin electro-guns.

The Thunder Blade fully charged.
Electric currents surged violently along the blade.

Max spoke quietly.

“Jackson… he’s seriously unstable right now…
And insanely strong.”

Moses’ voice turned dark and dangerous.

“Anyone touches Vance…
I’ll kill them.”

Vance gasped weakly on the ground.

“What the hell… did I even do just now…”

Simon crouched beside him, finally understanding.

“That Divine Judgment attack released every bit of the mech’s stored electricity at once.”

“And along with it—
it forcibly accelerated the alcohol metabolism inside your body.”

He looked directly at Vance.

“You sobered up instantly.”

“But the side effect is severe electrical overstimulation across your muscles.”

“That’s why you’re in extreme pain.”

Vance laughed bitterly, embarrassed and finally sober.

“…No wonder I feel like I got struck by lightning.”

Hank nodded.

“Thunder God can still move.
But you won’t be piloting anytime soon.”

Vance lowered his voice.

“…That was seriously humiliating.”

Simon’s tone softened for once.

“At least you’re conscious now.”

Moses immediately interrupted, still stubborn.

“I’m not drunk.”

—Vance and Simon gave him the exact same deadpan stare.

Jackson slapped the cracked stone wall nearby.

“Focus.
We need to break through this wall and reinforce the front line.”

Hank nodded.

“Right.”

Max looked toward the remaining mechs.

“Six mechs should make this much faster.”

Simon immediately corrected him coldly.

“Five.
Actually… four.”

Moses blinked.

“Who are you subtracting?”

Simon pointed directly at him.

“You.”

“Your job is to watch Vance.”

Moses instantly snapped into a crooked military salute.

“YES SIR!!”

Even Lightning Command gave a sloppy, alcohol-soaked salute along with him.

The King Centipede

Matt stared at the massive writhing creature ahead, his voice low but decisive.

“Vincent—jump across the left-side fault line!”

Electric King engines roared to maximum output.

Without hesitation—

The mech vaulted across the collapsed terrain and slammed heavily beside the centipede’s head.

The next second—

All electrical output focused forward.

“NOW!!”

Violent electricity erupted like a thunderstrike—

Directly blasting the King Centipede’s facial sensory organs.

—The monster instantly froze.

Its colossal body convulsed violently, as if its nervous system had been forcibly disconnected.

Matt roared:

“Sander!!”

—There was only a split second.

Inside the centipede’s body—

Van Helsing, Sander, and Black had already prepared.

“FIRE!!”

All three activated simultaneously.

A high-energy laser blasted outward from inside the monster’s abdomen—

Externally—

Parker’s targeting system instantly locked onto the opening.

“I see it!! The weak point is exposed!!”

Matt didn’t hesitate.

“Kirk! Parker! Focus fire on the same point!!”

—Two heavy bombardments fired simultaneously.

Direct hit.

The exact point pierced from inside—

The outer shell began to crack apart.

At that very instant—

“MOVE!!”

Vulcan and Tiger Shark charged together.

The two close-combat mechs rushed into melee range—

Dual blades unleashed in a frenzy against the same fracture point.

Metal and shell tore apart in violent shrieks.

The crack—
was widening.

One more strike—

Just one more and they could split it completely open.

—And then.

The King Centipede’s nervous system forcefully recovered.

Its entire body suddenly trembled.

The next second—

The gigantic creature began thrashing uncontrollably.

The cavern shook.

Rock walls shattered.

Its tail swept violently across the battlefield.

“FALL BACK!! EVERYONE FALL BACK!!”

The mech units were forced to retreat.

Their offensive—
was brutally interrupted.

Matt gritted his teeth.

“Damn it… it recovered too quickly.”

Sander’s voice came through the comms, calm as ever.

“Don’t stop.
We’ve already found the breakthrough point.”

Finks added heavily:

“But this level of firepower still isn’t enough…
Where are the General and the others?”

A brief silence followed.

Then—

Winston finally broke it.

“General Hank and the others…”

—But he never finished the sentence.

Only the distant growls of approaching monsters continued echoing through the cavern.

《Pacific Rim》。
